Wayne Dale Doppelhammer passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 11:00 am at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services in Albert Lea; Pastor Kent Otterman will officiate. Wayne’s family will greet guests at a visitation one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be presented. Interment will be at Bear Lake Cemetery.

Wayne was born August 9, 1944, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, the son of Floyd and Gertrude (Olson) Doppelhammer. He grew up on a farm near Bear Lake and graduated from Emmons High School with the class of 1962. On February 21, 1970, Wayne married Sandra Hansen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

After high school, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1962 to 1965. During his time in the Army, he was a helicopter mechanic and spent some of his time in Germany. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Wayne went to Austin Technical College for automobile mechanics and went on to work at Zetterholm Motors for several years. He later could be found manning the counter at Big A Auto Parts, which later became Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts and finally came to be O’Reilly Auto Parts, until his retirement.

Wayne was an avid sports fan, always keeping up with all Minnesota sports teams, particularly the Twins and the Wild. He had also become very fond of watching the birds on the feeder outside his window.

Left to cherish Wayne’s memory are his wife, Sandy; son, Jay; and daughter, Stacy (Jamie) Andersen; grandchildren Kemma (Morgan) Wing, Eric and Nickolas Doppelhammer, and Quinn and Paige Andersen; a great-granddaughter, Pappy Wing; and a sister, Susan White.

Wayne was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill Doppelhammer, in 2015; his parents, Floyd and Gertrude Doppelhammer; and in-laws, Edgar and Berneta Hansen.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Good Samaritan Society and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Wayne.
