Remembering the life of Wanda A. Fisher.....
The Funeral Service for Wanda A Fisher will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the United Methodist Church, Ellendale. The Reverend Gary Liker will officiate. Interment will be in Geneva Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M -8:00 P.M. on Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Ellendale and one hour before the service at the church.
Wanda died on Monday, October 15, 2007 at the New Richland Care Center. She was 92.
She was born on April 5, 1915, in Ellendale, Minnesota the daughter of Harold and Nelsena (Skow) Ferguson.
Wanda graduated from Ellendale High School and attended and obtained her teaching certificate from Mankato State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in a one room school house in Clarks Grove.
On September 18, 1940, she married C. Stephen Fisher in Ellendale. For a brief time they lived in Two Harbors, MN, then Zion, ILL, Sandusky, Ohio and then Defiance, Ohio where she received her bachelors degree in education.
Wanda had taught in several school districts in various states before returning to
Minnesota in 1963. She taught in White Bear Lake until retiring from the public school system, but continued teaching children as she then operated a day nursery for several years. Wanda and Stephen returned to live in Ellendale in 1979. She was active the Ellendale United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, attending adult studies and serving in UMW. Stephen died in 1985. Wanda later married James Christensen in Ellendale. He also preceded her in death.
Wanda is survived by three children: Bruce Fisher and his wife Barbara of West Chester, Ohio, Juanita and her husband Gus Achterberg of Kernersville, NC, Dennis Fisher and his wife Janis of Chanhassen, MN, grandchildren: Steven Fisher and his wife Angela of West Chester, Ohio, Sherry and her husband Brian Blankenship of Cincinnati, Ohio, Julie and her husband John Corbett of Goldsboro, NC, Paul Achterberg and his wife Sandra of Winston Salem, NC David Fisher and Dianna Fisher both of Chanhassen, MN, great grandchildren: Ryan and Joseph Fisher of West Chester, Ohio, Mason Corbett of Goldsboro, N.C. and Keith and Sienna Achterberg of Winston Salem, NC
also surviving are sisters: Anna Foster of Red Wing, MN, Beulah Crabtree of Ellendale, Alice Richards of Geneva, MN, Mildred and husband Jerry Flugum of Ellendale, Roselyn and husband Eldon Peterson of Hayfield, MN, sister-in-law Caroline Fisher of WI, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husbands C. Stephen Fisher and James Christensen and sister Helen Holmes.
