Walter (Gene) Eugene Schiltz passed away on November 3, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 80. Born on June 20, 1944, Walter dedicated his life to his family and community, embodying the role of a devoted and loving husband and father.
Walter is survived by his wife, Audrey Schiltz; his sons, Kirk and his wife Lyndy, Kevin and his wife Susan, Mike, and Tom and his wife Tricia; his sister, Mary Schmitt and her husband Donald Schmitt; his sister, Cecelia Plathe and her husband Dick Plathe; his brother, Leon Schiltz; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret (McGuire) Schiltz; and his brothers, Robert, John, and Donald Schiltz.
After graduating from St. John's High School in Bancroft, Iowa, in 1962, Walter honorably served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. His professional career spanned many years at Wilson & Company (Farmstead) and Bridon Cordage of Albert Lea, where he was respected for his dedication and work ethic.
A man of faith, Walter was a long-time member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. His hobbies included bicycling and watching sports, with a particular passion for baseball, which brought him great joy and relaxation.
Memorial services will be held at St. Theodore Catholic Church on Saturday, November 9, with a viewing at 10:00 AM followed by the service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota in memory of Walter. His legacy of love, service, and community will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
