Vernon Doss

After almost 50 years living on Grace St. (515) and over 80 years living in the Kingdom of Grace (since his baptism), Vernon L. Doss is now living in the Kingdom of Glory! He was born July 11, 1927 in White, So. Dakota, the son of Christian and Mabel (Friday) Doss; confirmed

at St. John's Lutheran Church in Alma City, MN; and graduated from Pemberton, MN. High School.

Upon reaching his seventeenth birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre for 2 years during WWII. He was recalled to the Korean War and served in the Navy another year.

Vernon and Pamela Ekstrum were united in marriage September 10, 1949 in Minneapolis. Besides spending time with his family, reading, writing, and having a good discussion were his passions.

Vernon graduated from Mankato Teachers' College with a B.S. degree in English and Social Studies in August 1953; his M.S. degree in English was achieved

in June 1960. He served on the State Council of Quality Education for 8 years and

was active in the local Teachers' Union.

Vernon was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as Elder and taught Sunday School and Bible Classes.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Orval and Allen, sister Doris Stelter, sister-in-law Elnora Doss, and brothers-in-law Frank Jewison and Kenneth Montis.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Pamela and children: Jeffrey Doss and wife Trish, Gregory Doss and wife Jenny, Kimberly Doss-Smith and husband Patrick, Holly (Ekstrum) Winter, Lynn (Ekstrum) Anderson, Mark Ekstrum and wife Linda, and Keith Kyle. Twelve grandchildren and four

great grandchildren also survive him. Survivors include his sisters Nell Montis, Loraine Anderson and husband Harvey, and Lois Jewison; brothers Edward, Dallas and wife Jan, Darrell and wife Sheryl, and former brother-in-law Wally Stelter and wife Dolores.
