Obituary for Stanley W. Peterson
The funeral service for Stanley W. Peterson will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Vista Lutheran Church, rural New Richland, MN. The Reverend Charles Espe will officiate. Burial will be in Vista Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at Friedrich Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church.
Stanley died on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at the New Richland Care Center. He was 94 years old.
Stanley was born on February 3, 1910, on the family farm in rural Waseca County, Otisco Township, MN as the second child of Elving Leonard and Maria Theolina (Johnson) Peterson. His grandparents, Lars and Maria Peterson had emigrated from the Smaland province of Sweden in 1866. After completing District #48 rural school he attended Waseca High School and the University of Minnesota Agriculture College in St. Paul before returning to the Vista Community to farm with his father as the third generation on the family homestead.
On June 16, 1937, he married Anna Mae Jacobson of rural Hartland, MN and continued to farm until 1962. After residing in Waseca for a brief period they returned to farming on Anna Mae's grandparents' homestead west of Hartland until 1969, when they moved to New Richland. In New Richland, Mr. Peterson worked at Borchard's Service Station and later in the parts department at the New Richland Co-op. He enjoyed clerking auctions for the Otisco State Bank and served as the secretary/treasurer for the Otisco Creamery. He also was the New Richland City Clerk for a period of time as well as the treasurer of Vista Lutheran Church for many years. He was named Waseca County Senior Citizen of the Year.
Stanley is survived by his three children: Mary Ann and her husband, Dr. Dennis D. Knutson of Sioux Falls, SD, Robert L Peterson and his wife, Darlet J. (Below) of rural New Richland, MN, Jane W. (widow of Donald A.) Rasmussen of Apple Valley, MN; six grandchildren: Eric and Amy (Schmidt) Knutson and Brian and Kristin (Wehrman) Knutson of Sioux Falls, SD, Troy and Melissa (Hanlen) Peterson of Loveland, CO, Thomas and Tamara (Breck) Peterson and Sandra (Peterson) and Mark Tollefson of rural New Richland, MN, Tyler and Siri (Johnson) Peterson of New Brighton, MN; twenty great grandchildren; one brother, Russel V. (Nora) Peterson of Fort Meyers, FL; sister-in-law, Alvina Lewer of Waseca, MN; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna Mae; brothers-and sisters-in-law: Lloyd and Mabel (Frisk) Peterson, George Lewer and Warren (Trudy Jacobson Solie) Jacobson; grandson, Todd R. Peterson, son-in-law, Donald A. Rasmussen.
