The funeral service for Sanford Frederick (Sandy) Schaer of Albert Lea, Minnesota will be 10:30 a,m, Friday at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN as Sandy was a WWII veteran. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Military Honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Veterans Organizations. Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea is in charge of arrangements.
Sandy passed away peacefully on May 5, 2008 at the Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 95 years old. Sandy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dr.Barbara Krall Schaer; daughters, Mary (Tom) Whittington, Barbara Schaer-Mady (Mike), Nancy Hannum (Ron), Karen Gomez (Benjamin); grandchildren Jennifer, Joe, Jeremy, Amy, Melissa, Jenny, Joan and great-granddaughter Lilly and cousin Fred Hall. Preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Carl Schaer. A loving husband and father, Sandy was born in Superior, Nebraska on November 23, 1912. He worked for Armour Foods in Mitchell, South Dakota, Portage, Wisconsin and Albert Lea for his entire 40 year career. He was a lifelong member of the Elks, loved the game of golf and dogs Buster, Biney, Penny and Mitzi.
