Memorial Services for Ruth "Ruthie" Ann Haskins, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Timothy T. Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may visit with family one hour before services at the church. Ruthie died on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. She was 81. She was born on February 20, 1934, in Waseca, Minnesota the daughter of Edward and Marion (Flannery) Giel. She graduated from Winona Senior High School and attended Winona State Teachers College. On February 27, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert Duane Haskins in Winona.
Following their marriage, Bob "Sonny" and Ruthie lived in Winona, Hayfield, and then made their home in Albert Lea in 1963. Ruthie had worked in the produce department at Red Owl for many years, and then as a medical secretary for a short time, but she loved and cherished her role as wife, mom, grandma and homemaker. She enjoyed swimming, sewing, baking, reading, traveling, motorcycle camping, cross country skiing and spending time with family and friends.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband Bob; her children: Julie Haskins (Roman Gomez) of Mexico, Peggy Haskins (John Murphy) of Portland, Oregon, Joseph and Kimberly ( Nelson) Haskins of Phoenix, AZ, David and Leah (Gonzales) Haskins of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Haskins of Austin, MN, Amy Haskins of Hillsboro, Oregon, Beth (Daniel) Talamantes of Albert Lea, and Melissa Haskins (Robert Dahl) of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren: Brice Christopherson of Austin, MN, Eden and Willow Haskins-Dahl, Abraham and Sakie (Fuse) Haskins-Murphy, Ivan Haskins-Murphy, Dean Talamantes (Kristy Hollenbock); great grandchildren Carter and Mahkenzee; brother Edward and his wife Shirley Giel of Brooklyn Park, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Morris and Peggy Haskins of Albert Lea, and Mary Ann and Ron Worner of Apple Valley, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Kassi Marie Haskins, daughter-in-law Nancy (Christian) Haskins, and brothers Alden and Paul Giel.
Today the sun set on the life of Ruth Haskins. She was the person who taught me the power of love and laughter. She was a seasoned guide on my path to well-being, and I loved her beyond measure. The world is dimmer without you in it, grandma.
