Ruth Evelyn Nelson, age 93, of Albert Lea, MN, formerly of Frederic, WI died
Monday, April 19, 2004 at St. John?s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. at Bonnerup Funeral Home in Albert Lea. The funeral
Service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 23, 2004 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic, WI with visitation one hour before services at the church. The Reverend Mike Soppeland will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Frederic, WI.
Ruth Evelyn Roepke was born on June 28, 1910, in Sussex, WI, the daughter of William and Mary (Bates) Roepke. Her mother died when Ruth was 8 years old and she moved to Laurel, Montana where she lived with her Aunt Mable and Uncle Barney Hageman and their children Kenneth and Mildred. Ruth graduated from Billings, Montana High School in 1928; and from Wisconsin State Teacher?s College, Superior, WI in 1930. She taught seventh grade for seven years in Frederic, WI. On May 27, 1937 she married LeRoy Andrew Nelson in Mason City, IA. They lived in Frederic, WI, Salt Lake City, UT and Stillwater, MN. They were members of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic. After her husband died in 1994, Ruth came to live at Knutson Place in Albert Lea. She became a resident of Sheltering Arms at St. John?s Lutheran Home in May 1999. She enjoyed reading, volunteering at the Frederic Library and especially times with her three grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Jane and husband, William Buege of Albert Lea, MN;
3 grandchildren: Kristen (Matt) Philbrook of Cortez, CO; Brad (Kathy) Buege of Waterford, MI. and Gretchen (Eric) Broecker of Denver, CO; and two great grandchildren, Thomas and Grace Buege.
She is also survived by cousins, Ken (Jean) Hageman of Laurel, MT. and Mildred (Roger) Briggs of Billings, MT.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The family prefers memorials to Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Frederic, WI.
Although subjected to Alzheimer?s Disease the family is grateful for the caring hands and loving hearts at Sheltering Arms that allowed her a peaceful departure.
