Robert A. Jacobs, of Albert Lea, formerly of Alden, went home to be with the Lord. A Celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 1, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Alden, MN. The Reverend Greg Ofsdahl will officiate. Interment will be in Alden Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5-8 P.M. on Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church.
Robert passed away September 23, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by his wife Mavis and family. He was born on October 11, 1941, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of James A. and Alvina Dorthea(Olsen) Jacobs. He married his high school sweetheart Mavis E. Solland on October 16, 1960 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. They celebrated 56 years together. They had farmed for 40 years. Throughout his life he was also an over the road truck driver. Together with his wife Mavis, they had travelled more than 4 million miles with the opportunity to see all of the United States. Following his passion for travelling, Robert and Mavis had also made leisure trips to Alaska, the Bahamas, Mexico, Hawaii, the Virgin Islands and took a Caribbean cruise. Very much a family man, Robert loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren, and was always up for a good game of cards. He also really appreciated having exchange students join the family fold. His interests were broad as he also enjoyed camping, campfires, boating, horses, and snowmobiling. Robert will be missed by his family, wife Mavis; six children: Dorene (Randy) Holstad, Lake Mills, IA, Laura (Robert) Soriano, Bastrop, TX, Brad (Nancy) Jacobs, Owenton, KY, Rob (Lori) Jacobs, Forest City, IA, Linda (Mikal) Byers, Owenton, KY and Joe (Lori) Jacobs, Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren: Matt Holstad ( fiancée Tiffany Bruhns), Kristen (Don) Guarino, Brianna Holstad, Nicole(David) Long, Andrea, Malachi and Nathaniel Soriano, Nicki and Connor Jacobs, Taila, Blake and Easton Jacobs, Ashley, Mikala, and Allison Byers, Gabriel, Forster and Olivia Jacobs, extended family Dennis and Georgina Allen and Daniela and Kayla, Luz Rodriguez and family; brothers: Howard (Glenda) Jacobs, Oak Grove, KY, Dick Jacobs, Fort Myers, FL; brothers –in-law and sisters-in-law: Curt Emrud, AZ, Gloria Johnson, Albert Lea, Ralph Solland (Hilda Sellner) Albert Lea, Jerome (Sharlene) Solland, Twin Lakes, Judean (Karolyn) Solland, Shevlin, MN, Margaret Solland, Emmons, Gay Solland, Wyoming, Ginny Solland, Oklahoma and many, many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents James and Dorothy Jacobs, his sister Beverly Emrud, his brother Dennis Jacobs, sisters-in-law Sharon Jacobs, Pat Solland; brothers-in-law Don, Marvin, and Orin "Kay" Solland, Odis Lee and Irvin Johnson.
Robert will be greatly missed by his family and always remembered for his kind and generous spirit.
