Funeral services for Rita K. Bergen will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at St. Theodore Catholic Church 315 E. Clark St., Albert Lea, MN. Father Russell Scepaniak will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery.
Rita passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at N.C. Little Memorial Hospice in Edina. She was 75 years old.
Rita was born March 26, 1941 in Albert Lea, MN, Rita graduated from Albert Lea Senior High School in 1959. She went on to attend St. Marys School of Nursing in Rochester and became an RN. She spent most of her career at the U of MN, eventually being a head nurse of a pediatric unit. She went on to work with Dr. Warren Warwick who was doing leading edge work with cystic fibrosis patients.
Due to an early retirement because of health issues, she spent her time being a nanny and enjoying her family. Her adopted families are Tim& Dawn Ostrem and their children Karyn, Tommy, Erik and Parham & Rezvan Alaie and their children Sanauz and Sauviz, all of Eagan, MN.
She is survived by brothers, John Bergen of Eagan, Pat (Nancy) Bergen of Albert Lea and their children Sara Colby (Jeff Stevens) and their children Brandon, Aly, and Laney all of Albert Lea; Jill (Chris) Dickrell, and their children Ashlyn and Taylor, of Otsego, MN; niece, Mary (Mike) Quinlivan, of Minneapolis, and their children Ryan (fiancé Elizabeth Murphy) New York City and Emily of San Francisco; brother-in-law Tom Donovan of Hartland, MN.
She is preceded in death by parents, John and Eileen Bergen; sister, Marguerite (Bergen) Donovan; and grandniece Chloe Dickrell.
