Richard Severtson

Funeral Services for Richard J. "Dick" Severtson, of Glenville, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 12, 2014 at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Reverend George Marin will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran's Organizations. Visitation will be from 5-8 on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the services at the funeral home. Dick died on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was 93.
He was born on June 8, 1920, in Regent, North Dakota, the son of Alfred and Katherine (Billat) Severtson. Dick proudly served our country in the US Army from January of 1942, until his honorable discharge in October of 1945. He had been awarded a Bronze Service Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, European Service Medal, six overseas service bars, and a Purple Heart for his dedicated service. He was a lifetime member of the Glenville American Legion.
He married Muriel Hagerud on August 7, 1952, they were later divorced. Dick spent his life as an auto mechanic. He was very proficient at his trade and worked for Ruud Motors, operated his own garage in Glenville for a time, and then finished his career
at Phillips 66 before retiring. After retiring he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden. Dick is survived by his daughter: Roxie (Marcelino) Talamantes of Alden, and her children: Marcelino (Gabrielle) Talamantes III of Alden and their daughter Stormy, Brenda Severtson (special friend Clem Whitedog)and her sons Siggy and Dominic of Longmont, CO; his step-daughters: Jean (Dave) Frank of Apache Junction, AZ, Kathryn Hall, Coon Rapids, MN, step grandchildren: Lisa Frank, Lance Frank; step great grandchildren: Chaice Frank, Liberty Frank, Patrick Frank, Jackson Frank and Bailey Frank; brothers: Carol Severtson of Glenville and Kenneth Severtson of Albert Lea, and nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson Bradley Frank, former wife Muriel Hawkins; brothers: Clayton (Marvel) Severtson, Val Robert (Leona) Severtson, Roger Severtson, Faye (Gina) Severtson, sisters-in-law Pat and Sarah Severtson, nephews Dan Severtson , David Severtson, great nephew Danny Nielsen, great niece Michelle Ulve.
