Richard Lindell

Richard ‘Dick’ Lindell, 1934-2024

Dick passed away Octobert 7th, 2024, at the age of 90 with his granddaughter, Jessica, at his side. Dick lived his entire life in Albert Les. Dick was born on May 14th, 1934, in Albert Lea, MN. After graduating high school, Dick served in U.S Airforce for four years. After serving in the U.S Airforce, he attended the University of Minnesota where he studied music. In 1971, he became a postal carrier in Albert Lea, a job in which he loved for 21 years. Dick had said he walked a little over 50,000 miles as a postal worker, or twice around the earth. He had said that it ‘didn’t look any different the second time around’. Oh Grandpa…

Dick was a devoted Christian and carried in his heart a simple phrase:

“Be honest; Be humble; Be kind”

Dick was a man with many talents, he was recognized numerous times for his dedication and involvement with Duck Unlimited and The Minnesota Waterfall Association. He served as the secretary and treasurer of the Freeborn County Ducks Unlimited for 45 years. He was an avid duck, goose and pheasant hunter. Dick loved duck hunting so much, that he has over 200 mounted ducks in his home. He enjoyed many trips to Canada with friends for the fall waterfowl hunt. He had many friends from many walks of life, some of whom he had known since his youth. Dick was a talented singer and enjoyed singing in the choir, at weddings, at funerals and family events. If the conversation became dull, he would sing to bring happiness and laughter in the room. Dick loved playing in sports in his youth. He played hockey, tennis and golfed frequently. Later in life, he found enjoyment in watching all sports on tv or listening to games on the radio. After retiring from the post office, he continued to walk daily with his four-legged family member, Molly. He would walk approximately 5 miles a day with Molly. He loved chocolate and had perfected several chocolate chip cookie recipes. His family loved his famous ‘chocolate goo’ ice cream topping. He loved to spoil his family at Christmas with Christmas boxes full of candy and other goodies the kids loved.

Dick is survived by wife Delores, stepdaughter’s Kathie (Tom) Groeneweg, Joni (Rick) Mickelson, Jaynee (John) Lee, grandchildren Jessica (Brian), John (Heather), Sara (Kristine), Shawn (Alisha), Katrina, Brandon (Rochelle), Katelynn (Dan), and Conner. Great grandchildren Andilynn, Carsen, Sophia, Ridley, Jennessa, Dakota, Brecken, Teddy and Ronan. Sister Carol Darg and family. Nieces Beth (Chris Ostroot) Darg, Julie (David) Peters, nephew Phil (Jules) Darg. Great grandnephew Sam (Zoe Schuck), and many other grand nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by parents, granddaughter Jenna, great grandson Robin, brother in-law Lloyd, and his four- legged family member Molly.

Grandpa had one last message to everyone:

‘And now, if you will excuse me, I have a friend waiting for me at the rainbow bridge, love to all’.

P.S. We will all be together in the next life or this life meant nothing. And you know, in your heart, it is impossible to believe any life meant nothing!
