Phyllis E. Lokken, 99, of Albert Lea, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis was a cherished member of the community and leaves behind a legacy that will forever be remembered.
Born on August 8, 1924, in Albert Lea to Alfred and Bethel (Nelson) Sorenson, she was a 1941 graduate of Albert Lea High School. On April 13, 1946, Phyllis married Burnell Lokken at Calvary Baptist Church, and together they built a life filled with love and dedication to their family. Throughout her career, Phyllis made a lasting impact as a Country School teacher and then later as an Activities Director at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community. In addition to her many skills and interests, she was a bookkeeper for the family-owned fuel station, Lokken Standard and occupied her free time in the lunchroom at Brookside.
A woman of many talents and passions, she enjoyed sewing with her former schoolmates, completing word searches and puzzles of all kinds, camping, and traveling to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for her warm hospitality, Phyllis had a knack for baking delicious cakes and cookies, creating a welcoming home for all who entered. Phyllis was devoted to God and her community, finding solace in her strong faith and nurturing relationships with family and friends.
Phyllis is survived by her four children, Richard (Renee) Lokken, Barry (Cindy) Lokken, Ross (Vicki) Lokken, and Lori (Jim) Knipp; grandchildren, Kris (Brad) Burnett, Kim (Troy) Knutson, Alisha Fulton, John (Bridget) Lokken, David (Nicole) Lokken, Ben (Audrey) Lokken, Sarah Lokken, Laura (James) Post, Katie (Yak Reddest) Stager, Chance Stager; 25 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Alfred and Bethel, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Burnell Lokken; brother, James (Lila) Sorenson; a granddaughter, Beth Ann Lokken; and a great-grandson, Carsyn Stager.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Bridge Community Church with Pastor Mark Miller officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, July 14 from 2-4PM at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services and one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed to Youth for Christ and Bridge Community Church.
