Paul Joseph Miller

Paul Joseph Miller passed away at the New Richland Care Center on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from cancer complications. 

 Paul was born October 11, 1941, and grew up on the family farm in New Richland, MN. He was the oldest of eight children born to Francis and Harriet (Erwin) Miller. Paul graduated from New Richland High School in 1959 and after graduation spent six years in the US Army Reserves. 

 Paul spent his life on his family’s farm until his retirement in the spring of 2018. He was proud of his career as a life-long farmer and was a passionate steward of the land. He believed it was his responsibility to care for the land, to promote conservation efforts, and to instill this philosophy in future generations who would continue to use the land long after him.  As a baptized, confirmed and lifelong member of All Saints Catholic church, Paul found pride in assisting with the Church’s Fall Festival each year. 

 He was an avid member of the Cloud Chasers Flying Club in Albert Lea where he met his spouse, Diane Peterson. They were married at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea in 1979. He cherished their 44 years of friendship and dedication to one another.

 Throughout his life Paul enjoyed flying small airplanes and piloted many trips around the country with friends and family. He and Diane also loved to sail and spent several summers sailing at Lake Pepin. 

 Diane extends her heartfelt thanks to the staff at the New Richland Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care during Paul’s last days. His strength, resilience, and unique spirit will forever be remembered and respected.

 Paul is preceded in death by his parents; brother Peter Miller; sister, Judith Miller; and brother-in-law, Jeffery Peterson. 

Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years; five siblings, Marianne (Thomas) Strom, Jean (Jerald) McGuire, Joseph (Francine) Miller, Maureen (Kenneth) Graber, Rita Miller; sister-in-law, Patricia Peterson and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, his friends and fellow land stewards were invaluable to him throughout his life.

 Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland, MN; Father Glenn Frerichs will officiate.  Paul’s family will greet guests one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in New Richland, MN. 

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the New Richland Care Center, 312 1^st St NE New Richland, MN 56072 or St Croix Hospice, or to the charity of your choice.
