Pamela Jean Pates, 57, of Owatonna, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea with her family by her side.

Born on June 5, 1965, in Cherokee, IA, she was the daughter of Dennis Raveling, of Clarksville, TN, and Janis Wetherell Raveling (Jim Wilson), of Sioux Rapids, IA. After completing high school, Pamela attended AIB College of Business in Des Moines, IA, where received her Associates Degree in Business and Court Reporting in 1990 and began working as a Stenographer in 1992. Known for her meticulous recordkeeping and organization, Pam thrived in her career as she worked in various districts throughout Iowa and Minnesota.

A devoted mother to her sons, Derek and Matthew. Pam cherished spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren. A friend to all, she enjoyed listening to music in her convertible with the top down, attending outdoor concerts, gave amazing legal advice, camping with her grandchildren, volunteering for church youth groups and spending time at the lake. 

In addition to her parents, Dennis Raveling and Janis Wetherell Raveling (Jim Wilson), those left to carry on Pam’s memory are her two children, Derek Pates of Forest City, IA, and Matthew Pates, of Owatonna, MN; grandchildren, Jayden and Korvyn; a brother, Jeff Raveling, nephews and niece of Clarksville, TN; her beloved cousin, Kathy Raveling; and life-long friend, Barb Noonan.

Pamela is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jacob and Marion Raveling; maternal grandparents, Levern and Pauline Wetherell; and beloved black lab Lexi.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, 11:00 AM, at First United Church, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.  A luncheon and visitation will take place immediately following the service until 3:00 PM.
