Memorial Services for Orville H. Weum, of
Albert Lea
, will be held at 11:30 A.M. on
Friday, June 18, 2010
at
First
Lutheran
Church
in Albert Lea.
The Reverend John Holt will officiate.
Interment will be in
Graceland
Cemetery
.
Military Honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran’s
Organizations.
Friends may visit with family one hour before services
at the church.
Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with
arrangements.
Orville died on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
He was 88.
He was born on April 5, 1922, in
Albert Lea
, the son of Severt and Sigrid (Harum) Weum.
Orville graduated from
Albert Lea
High School
and
then went on to Dunwoody Institute.
He was united in marriage to Bernice DeMets on May `17, 1943 in
Austin
,
Minnesota
.
He began working at American Gas in
Albert Lea
before he enlisted and served our country in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. He served time in
France
and
Germany
. Following his time in the service, he returned to
work at American Gas. In 1950, he went to work for Jordan Builders
in
Austin
,
MN
, and then in 1965 he joined Dick Dickema Construction, where he worked for 22 years before retiring in 1987.
Bernice preceded him in death in 1992.
In his later years he enjoyed his winters in
Arizona
.
It was here that Orville met Norma Haney, and they shared a special companionship-
finding much enjoyment in golfing, traveling and taking care and spending time with each other.
Orville had been a member of the Elks Club, the Golden K, and the V.F.W. He had many special interests which included golf, woodworking, hunting, gun collecting,
crafting his own guns, and taking meticulous care of his yard.
He is survived by his son Michael Weum and his wife Janice of
Vadnais Heights
,
Minnesota
; grandchildren Kristoffer Weum of Ely,
Minnesota
and Sara Weum of
Seattle
,
Washington
and sister-in-law Dagnie
Weum of Albert Lea.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice, brother Alf Weum and his partner in later years Norma Haney.
