The memorial service for Orlean Minnie Cleven will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 19, 2007 at First Lutheran Church, Ellendale, MN. The Reverend Arne Halbakken will officiate. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale. MN. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale and one hour before the service at the church.
Orlean died on Friday, October 12, 2007 at Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, MN. She was 89 years old.
Orlean was born in Kiester Township, Walters, MN on May 30, 1918, the daughter of Willaim and Lizzie (Rupp) Katzung. She attended District #85 rural Walters.
On March 3, 1945 Orlean was united in marriage with Lewis S. Cleven in Northwood, IA. They farmed near Thompson, IA, Kiester, MN and then moved to the Ellendale area in 1957. They were members of First Lutheran Church in Ellendale where Orlean was involved with the quilters and ladies circles.
Orlean was a homemaker and had also worked for Owatonna Canning for 17 years. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, bird watching, flower and vegetable gardening, and having coffee with her friends. She had been active in a neighborhood Bible study group. She enjoyed traveling and had fond memories of cruises, a trip to Germany, and trips with her friends and family.
Orlean will be remembered for her kind and elegant manner and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Orlean is survived by two children: Karen (Phil) Briggs of Ellendale, MN, Earl (Diane) Cleven of Ellendale, MN; five grandchildren: Denise (Brian) Briggs-Bronner of Owatonna, MN, Scott Briggs of Owatonna, MN, Garret (April) Briggs of Ellendale, MN, Katie (Brody) Richards of Albert Lea, MN, Jessie Cleven of St. Cloud, MN; eight great- grandchildren: Aaron and Santana Liverseed, Shea Briggs, Alan and Tyler Martin, Andrea and Gavin Briggs, Jaxson Richards; one sister-in-law, Marian Katzung of Alexandria, MN; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis in 1993; 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
