Obituary for Orlando N. Thompson



The funeral service for Orlando N. Thompson will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 14, 2005 at First Lutheran Church, Ellendale, MN. The Reverend Arne Halbakken will officiate. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale and one hour before the service at the church.



Orlando died on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 90 years old.



Orlando was born in Ellendale, MN on June 18, 1914, the son of Ole and Julia (Thompson) Thompson. He was a graduate of Ellendale High School.



On May 2, 1934 Orlando was united in marriage with Bernice Ohnstad in First Lutheran Church, Ellendale, MN. They were active members of First Lutheran Church where Orlando had served as church treasurer for many years. They farmed outside of Ellendale until retiring in 1979 and moving into town. Orlando had been residing at Oak Park Place in Albert Lea for the past three years.



Orlando was also a salesman for DeKalb Seed for 42 years, drove school bus for 18 years, was treasurer of the Ellendale Creamery for many years, and was a 4-H leader while his children were growing up.



Orlando was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching the Twins play ball. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren?s school activities.



Orlando is survived by four children: Louise (Allan) Berg of Albert Lea, MN, Orlene (Jack) Woodside of Albert Lea, MN, Ronald (Maxine) Thompson of Emmons, MN, Lois (Duane) Aitchison of Ellendale, MN; 10 grandchildren: Debra (Rick) Riemann of Brooklyn Center, MN, David (Tracy) Berg of Savage, MN, DeAnne (Dale) Maroo of Mason City, IA, Paul (Robbi) Woodside of Albert Lea, MN, Ann (Gene) Arnold of Albert Lea, MN, Daniel Woodside of Bloomington, Ind, Stanley (Carol) Thompson of Albert Lea, MN, Nancy (Bryan) Erickson of Blooming Prairie, MN, Shari (Jay) Crabtree of Ellendale, MN, Jamie (Gabrielle) Johnson of Albert Lea, MN; 21 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Joan (Elmer) VandenHeuvel of Geneva, MN; one sister-in-law, Alice Thompson of Albert Lea, MN; many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice in 1999; brother, Adrian Thompson; son-in-law, Duane Johnson; great grandson, Scott Riemann.
