Obituary: Norbert Frederick Meyer
The funeral service for Norbert Frederick Meyer will be at 11:00 a.m.Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minnesota. Reverend Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. A closed casket visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
Norbert died Sunday May 29, 2005 at the Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was 84 years old.
Norbert was born June 19, 1920 in Wells, Minnesota to Ewald and Lillian (Brandt) Meyer. He married Alvesta Simon on January 8, 1940 in Blue Earth, Minnesota.
Norbert farmed for a few years. He worked at Wilson & Company for 16 years, Smith-Douglas, Sorenson?s Locker, Chris Bonnerup Construction and ran Meyer Construction for many years, Norbert was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was a friend of Bill (W.) since 1972. Norbert liked to run a vegetable garden, enjoyed making a rock garden, bowling, fishing, gambling, playing cards, playing Dominoes, Listening to old time polka music, listening to the "Twins", making "Valken Broat", making chocolate popcorn for all who loved it. These and other unique items will be missed by his family.
Norbert is survived by three children: Betty Stolaas of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Carol Stensrud and husband Jerry of Mallard, Iowa and Judi Wangsness and husband Bruce of Wadena, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren: Robin Evenson and husband Tom of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Kevin Stolaas and wife Kelly of Georgia, Scott Stolaas and wife Tammy of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Kelly Springborg of Albert Lea, Minnesota David (Junior) Meyer of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Dale Meyer and wife Danette of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Rhanah Truman and husband James of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Kirstin Bradshaw and husband Brett of Springfield, Illinois, Casey Wangsness of Wadena, Minnesota, Trevor Wangsness of Wadena, Minnesota and Suzanne Plautz and her husband Dennis.; 30 great grandchildren; great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.; brother: Leonard Meyer of Oakland, Minnesota; brother-in-law: Roger Simon of California; Sisters-in-law: Aileen of Wells, Minnesota, Junita Beyer of Wells, Minnesota and Martha Peterson of Marshalltown, Iowa.
Norbert is preceded in death by his wife: Alvesta (Simon Meyer in 2001, son: David Leroy Meyer in 1998, son in infancy, parents: Ewald and Lillian Meyer, Brothers: Herbert W. Meyer and Marvin Meyer and a brother in infancy, sister: Adoris "Toots" Lilleflorn, granddaughter: Chila Meyer; grandson: Marvin Meyer, Great great grandson: Scott Stolaas II, Father-in-law: Paul Simon, Mother-in-law: Martha Simon, Sisters-in-law: Sally Drager, Ardelle Meyer and Margret Simon, brothers-in-law: Edwin Simon, Detrick Simon, Eldon Beyer, Gilman Peterson and Gordon Lilleflorn, nephews: Bruce and Robert Meyer.
