Nellie Johnson

September 29, 1908 — December 19, 2010

Nellie Oyer Hahn Johnson lived 102 years, impacting so many lives on her journey. She was born on a farm in Worth County, Iowa September 29, 1908 and died at St. John's Lutheran Home, December 19, 2010. She attended high school at Waldorf Academy, where she sang in their choir under Professor Lyders. She then married, and lived in several Minnesota locations before settling in Albert Lea in 1948. She was a very active member of First Lutheran Church, serving in Ladies Aid, Circle #31 and singing in the Ladies Choir for many years. She has devoted her life to her faith and her family. She had six children, and eventually became grandmother, great, and even great, great-grandmother. Beyond her family and church, once she reached 100 years old, she started to receive outside recognition as one of Albert Lea's Centenarians. From newspaper articles to interviews, she shared with many what it was like to live over a century, seeing life change from horse and buggy days to the present. Luckily, she preserved her memoirs in a book for many of us to treasure. She is survived by many family members covering several generations. A service to celebrate her long life will be held in April, 2011.
