Nancy Cornelius

A memorial service for Nancy A. Cornelius will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Community Lutheran Church, Geneva.  The Rev. Dr. Kristen Venne will officiate.  Visitation will take place 4:30 – 7:30 on Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.

Nancy died at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, in Minneapolis, MN on Sunday, September 23, 2018.  She was 72 years old.

Nancy Ann (Worrell) was born on February 15, 1946 in Marshalltown, IA to Samuel and Dorothy (Bailey) Worrell.  The family moved to Geneva at a young age, where she attended school and graduated from Ellendale Geneva High School.

On February 20, 1965, she was united in marriage to Jim Cornelius at the Community Lutheran Church in Geneva.  To this union, two children were born.

Nancy worked many jobs throughout her lifetime.  She worked for Federated Insurance, Sorenson’s Appliance, and Geneva State Bank.  She would retire from Minnesota Abstract and Title.  All the while, she was the City Clerk for Geneva for 33 years.

Community Lutheran Church was a big part of Nancy’s life.  She held a variety of titles there, including Lay Pastor, Church Council, and Clerk to name a few. She did pretty much everything except play the organ!  Nancy loved quilting and getting together with the “Electric Eight” quilting group.  She also enjoyed riding motorcycle, traveling, reading and shopping.  Nancy was the leader of her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by both parents, Sam and Dorothy Worrell; mother and father in-law, Bud and Bernice Cornelius; siblings, Mary Dray and Robert Worrell – in infancy; nephew, David Dray; and a niece, Kimberly Beuerlein.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jim Cornelius; children, Tad (Bunny) Cornelius and Cheryl Cornelius (Todd Ide); grandson, Jordan Cornelius; siblings, Roger (Linda) Worrell and Jim (Jeanni) Worrell; a brother in-law, Raymond Dray; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
