Funeral Services for Milford A. Egland of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran's Organizations. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M.— 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church. Milford died on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Home. He was 87. Milford Alton Egland was born February 17, 1926, in Emmons, Minnesota to Anton and Mary Egland. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Emmons. Milford graduated from Albert Lea High School and served for nearly ten years in the Marine Corps. He served in Guam, Marianas, Iwo Jima, and the Korean Conflict. On December 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Mensing in Pine Island, Minnesota. He worked as a lieutenant for the Albert Lea Police Department and also at Farmstead Foods. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion, and the VFW. Milford is survived by his wife Evelyn and their three children: Debra (Paul) Linnes of Albert Lea; Steven (Christina) Egland, of Spokane, WA; Susan (Douglas) Rowen of Hudson, WI; eleven grandchildren Jacquelyn (Mauricio) Dell'Arciprete, Michael (Jacqueline) Linnes, Laura (David) Cosio, Albert Jongewaard, Tyler Jongewaard, Kaytlyn Rowen, Kyrsten Rowen, Colten Egland, Augustus Egland, Anandae Egland, Asher Egland;two great-grandchildren, Arianna Dell'Arciprete and Elias Cosio and step-brother Carl Nelson. There are many nieces, nephews and friends. After he retired, he and his wife spent nearly two years with Amity, teaching in China. They also spent several weeks working on the Indian Reservations in Arizona and New Mexico. He enjoyed camping, playing cards, lemonade, cantaloupe, ice cream and visiting with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Luella McClosky, Myrl Hebel, Violet Stovern Roberts, one brother John Egland; step brother Roy Nelson, two step-sisters, Beverly Nielson and Irene LaValle. He will be missed. Blessed be his memory.
