Funeral services for Mildred (Millie) Boyer, 90, of Albert Lea will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Reverend Timothy T. Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.m. on Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour prior to the service at the church. Millie entered heaven on April 13th at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea surrounded by family. Millie was born on October 20, 1922 in Walters, Minnesota to parents Millie and Fred Fulton. Millie was a graduate of Alden High School in 1942 and was active in many singing activities while in school. Millie was baptized on May 27, 1923 and confirmed on May 16, 1937 at the Alden Methodist Episcopal Church in Alden. She was united in marriage to Arthur C. Boyer on June 2, 1942, at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Albert Lea. Six children were born to Art and Millie. She was a member of St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Albert Lea. Millie moved to Long Beach, California after marrying Art where he worked in the shipyards there on World War II ships. They returned to the Alden area and later to a turkey farm north of Albert Lea where they lived until 1951. Millie worked at Northside Drug in the Sibley shop and Gibson's (changed to Pamida) until her retirement.Millie bowled in a league where she helped her team win the championship trophy and enjoyed the company of her team mates. Millie loved having coffee with "the Pamida girls" once a month and her friends and daughter every morning at Hardee's. At her home, she was known as the "Cookie Lady" where she gave out homemade cookies and freeze pops to the children as they got off of the schoolbus, she did this for many years. Millie was a member of the Moose Club and the Eagles where she enjoyed dancing to the Blue Banners and other groups. She was also very active at the Albert Lea Senior Citizens where she served as treasurer until her illness. Millie camped, boated and fished with family and friends whenever she could. Millie shared her wonderful smile with all who knew her. Millie and Arthur were divorced but remained best friends until his death on April 22, 2003. Millie lived at the Good Samaritan Society for 7 years and had a family visitor every day but two days while she lived there. She was never left alone.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Good Samaritan Society for their care and kindness during her 7 years there. They also want to thank all of the friends and relatives who sent cards and visited Millie while she lived at the home.
Millie is survived by five children: Karen O'Byrne of Albert Lea, Robert (Sarah) Boyer of Oklahoma City, OK, Mike (Lynne) Boyer of Albert Lea, Kevin Boyer of Albert Lea, Scott (Laurie) Boyer of Albert Lea, son-in-law Richard Berg of Albert Lea; 12 grandchildren: Steve O'Byrne, Jim (Dede) O'Byrne both of Albert Lea, Julie (Ray) Jacobs of North Mankato, Chris (Bria) Boyer, Drew (Lindsey) Boyer and Amy Boyer of Oklahoma City, OK, Michelle Boyer (Scott Arnold), Jami (Tim) Johnston, Terri Boyer (Jeremiah Peterson) and Luke Boyer all of Albert Lea, Aaron (Suhai) Boyer and Amber (Juan) Lopez, also of Albert Lea; 23 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren, sister Grace Jensen of St. Louis Park, MN and sister-in-law Bette Fulton of Alden, MN. She was preceded in death by : parents Millie and Fred Fulton, brother Robert Fulton, sister Margaret Johnson, Art Boyer, daughter Judy Berg(1998), great, great grandson Jayce Hable, one great-great grand baby Baby Boyer Peterson. Also preceding her in death are many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, numerous family members, loved one's and friends.
