Obituary Melvin F. Demmer



The Funeral Service for Melvin F. Demmer of the Good Samaritan Center,

Albert Lea, formerly of New Richland, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday,

October 27, at the First Congregational Church of Christ in New Richland. The Reverend

Pamela Jensen will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, rural

New Richland. Military Honors will be accorded by the New Richland Veteran,s Organization. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Friedrich Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.



Melvin was born on December 26, 1915, to William and Lillian (Priess)

Demmer on a farm in Steele County. He was baptized and confirmed at St.

Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN. He married Edra

Eschle at the First Congregational Church of Christ in New Richland on December 27, 1939 where he remained a member until his death.

Melvin was employed on different farms and for E.F. Johnson prior to volunteering for the army. He took his basic training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After

training, he was an instructor for the Field Artillery Replacement Training Ctr.,

attended the Provost Marshall General's School, a supply Non-Commissioned Officer and was in charge of all clothing and equipment issued. Melvin received a honorable discharge as a Sgt. E-2 and then was employed by J.F. Tryholm in Waseca for many years and did custom farming until retiring. Melvin and his wife, Edra, lived in New Richland until 1997 when they moved to Bancroft Creek Estates

by Albert Lea.



Melvin served as a Trustee and was active in the Men's Club at his church. He was also past president and member of both Lions and American Legion. He was instrumental and chairman of the board for "Royal Villa" complex in New Richland which was a success.

After retirement, Melvin and his wife enjoyed traveling the country in their RV. He lived a full life and enjoyed having fun. He was loved by many friends and his family, by whom he will be missed.

Melvin passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 25, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea at the age of 88.



Melvin is survived by brothers, David of New Richland, Boyd (Dorothy) of Faribault, Lyle (Mary) of Blooming Prairie; sisters: Verdelle Hansen (Philip)

Arlyss Haug (Richard), both of Clarks Grove, Devonna Olson (Gerald) of Amery,

WI; In-laws: Richard Sigurdson, Elsie Paulson and Norma Demmer all of Albert Lea, Evelyn (Duane) Bell of Rochester, Ellsworth and Dorothy (Demmer) Gulbrandson of Hartland and several nieces and nephews.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edra, brothers Wallace and Lester; sisters: Luella Jensen, Oriet Ribbe and Doris Sigurdson; in-laws: Everett Eschle, Ruth Demmer, Charles Ribbe, Kernie Jensen and Luther Paulson; nephew

Ronald Olson.
