Mary Sonksen

Memorial services for Mary Leone Sonksen of Albert Lea, MN, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN. Pastor Todd Walsh will officiate. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon Saturday until the time of the service at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Albert Lea.

Mary died December 25, 2015 at the Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea. She was 94 years of age.

Mary was born July 16, 1921 in Glenville, MN, the daughter of Ralph W. and Nellie Gae (Tlymouth) Booen. She graduated from Albert Lea High School and Business College in Mason City, Iowa. On July 11, 1942 she was united in marriage to Carl N. Sonksen at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea, MN.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church and active in the Church Circle and had been employed in sales at Pamida, Gibson's and Montgomery Wards. She continued her sales for many years at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Mary was a lifetime member of the DOES, Albert Lea Elks Club and Alanon. She enjoyed reading, flea markets, rummage sales and antiques.

Mary is survived by her daughters Carla Fjeldberg of Albert Lea, MN, Joan (James) McConnell of Austin, TX, grandchildren Todd (Kari) Fjeldberg, Tracy (Michelle) Fjeldberg, Tony (Shelly) Fjeldberg, Merideth (Jeff) Jones and Nick (Melissa) Petersen. There are 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She is also survived by sisters in law Marianne DePoppe, Pauline (Maynard) Olson, Shirley (Ray) Tukua, brother in law Edward (Peggy) Sonksen and many other relatives, nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, father-in-law August Sonksen, brothers Sherman (Mavis) Booen, Shirley (Dorothy) Booen, sister Kate Babbitt, and sons-in-law Dennis Petersen and David Fjeldberg.
