Mary Milliron, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 14 at her home in rural Hollendale, Minnesota. She passed peacefully and in the company of her family. Private services were held on Saturday, September 17 at Lakewood Cemetery.
Originally from Chicago, Mary and her husband, Elmer, have lived in Hollendale for more than 20 years. Mary was very politically active in the community and was a strong advocate of health care reform. She was known for her articulate and thought-provoking letters to the editor which appeared in not only the Albert Lea Tribune but the Austin Herald, St. Paul Pioneer Press and Minneapolis Star Tribune. After being diagnosed with cancer, she wrote a heartfelt article regarding alternative methods of cancer treatment that was syndicated in hundreds of newspapers accross the country.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Milliron, daughter, Paulette Mertes of Connecticut and son, Karl Milliron of Albert Lea, as well as seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
