Memorial Services for Marvin Francis Stenzel of Wells, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 28, 2015 at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Russell Scepaniak and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Thursday, August 27 at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and again one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Freeborn Cemetery in Freeborn, Minnesota.
Marvin died early Tuesday morning, August 25, at the Mayo Clinic Health System, Albert Lea. He was 77. He was born on September 18, 1937, in rural Wells, Minnesota, the son of Peter and Helen (Kukuzke) Stenzel. Lifelong resident of the Freeborn and Wells areas, Marvin graduated from Freeborn High School. He was united in marriage to Joyce Larson on October 2, 1965, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, MN. They lived, farmed, and raised livestock near Wells, MN. He also operated Marvin's Garden and Lawn Services for many years. He had been a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, and the last 15 years was a member at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea.
His favorite pastimes, aside from farming, included coaching Legion baseball, playing cards and golfing. Marvin worked hard, provided for his family, and set a wonderful example of how to live life. He loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed teaching them about gardening, growing melons, and loving the land.
Marvin is survived by his wife Joyce of Wells, MN.; children: Tyrone (Decia) Stenzel of Prior Lake, MN, Matthew (Linda) Stenzel of Northfield, MN, and Jennifer (Darren) Hanson of Albert Lea; grandchildren: David, Amanda, and Calvin Stenzel of Northfield, MN, Brooke, Callie, and Caleb Hanson of Albert Lea; brothers: Victor Stenzel and Dennis Stenzel; sisters: Therese McCue and Virginia Deyle; sisters-in-law: Lois Stenzel, Marilyn Stenzel, Laura Stenzel, Janice Prescher, Merle Stensrud, Toni Larson, Wendy Larson, Judy Schwartz, Barbara Gingerich; brothers-in-law: Phillip Morreim, Elmer Stensrud, Lowell Larson, Kenneth Larson, Kevin Schwartz, David Gingerich; mother-in-law, Leona Schwartz; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Stanley Stenzel, Emil Stenzel, LeRoy Stenzel and David Stenzel (in infancy); sisters-in-law: Sharon Morreim, Kathy Stenzel , Dorothy Stenzel; and brother-in-law Herb Prescher.
