Funeral services for Marvin A. Drescher will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church, in Albert Lea. The Reverend Janet White will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11 AM – 1 PM on Wednesday, at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Veteran's Association. Marvin passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center. He was 89 years old.
Marvin Arthur Drescher was born on August 19, 1924 to Henry and Amanda (Katsung) Drescher, in Freeborn County, MN. After his schooling, Marvin enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in WWII. Following his discharge, he was united in marriage to Fern (Richter). To this union, two children were born. Together, Marvin and Fern were residents of Albert Lea for 63 years.
Marvin was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, in Albert Lea. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Eagles Club. He was employed at Continental Foundry from 1946 – 1964, and then was a custodian from 1964 until his retirement in 1989. Marvin enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, and camping. He was also a member of the Cross Roads Camper Club. He will be remembered as a caring and wonderful person, who loved his family.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Orville, Norman, Herbert and Elsworth.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Drescher, of Albert Lea; children, Alan Drescher, of Albert Lea, and Randy (Kara) Drescher, of Rosemount, MN; grandchildren, Ricky and Lonnie Drescher, Natalie, Timothy and Brady Drescher, and; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roger Drescher, of OR.
