Obituary for Martin A. Teig



The funeral service for Martin A. Teig, 1722 Southview Lane, Albert Lea, MN will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Richard Spande will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-6 PM Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.



Martin died on Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 100 years old.



Martin was born September 17, 1903, to Chris and Malinda (Larson) Teig. Martin was united in marriage to Gladys Cole, daughter of Henry and Betsy Cole in Roland, Iowa on February 17, 1934 by Rev. M.O. Sumstad at Roland Lutheran Church. Martin was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, Iowa where he as baptized and confirmed by Rev. G.O. Paulsrud. His wife Gladys also joined the church. They started farming south of Jewell, Iowa for some years, later they moved to a farm north of Jewell, Iowa. They joined Jewell Bethesda Lutheran Church and were members there for 20 some years until they moved to Grand Meadow, MN. They were members there and Martin served on the church council for some years until 1976. They retired and moved to Albert Lea, MN and joined Trinity Lutheran Church, and later became members of Ascension Lutheran Church.



Gladys passed away on January 19, 1990, after 56 years of marriage. Martin was also preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Gladys Marie; three sisters: Ruth, Mabel and Selma; three brothers: Carl, Benjamin and Walter Teig.



Martin liked music, especially band music. He played many years with the Story City Iowa Concert Band and IOWA 4-H Club Band of Hamilton County, Iowa and some other town bands in Iowa. Martin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren;



He is survived by his daughter, Marie Miranda of Albert Lea; four grandchildren: Kevin (Nancy) Holdgrafer of Albert Lea, Bryan (Darlene) Holdgrafer of Baudette, MN, Theresa Miranda (special friend, Tony Hernandez) of Albert Lea, Lynette Miranda (special friend, Shane Gray) of Owatonna, MN; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and Missy Dokken (special friend/caregiver). He will be missed greatly by all of those close to him.
