Funeral services for Maria Carmen (Orta) Morley will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Bonnerup Funeral Chapel, Albert Lea. Reverend George Marin will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 – 6 PM on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and again one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
Maria passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at her home in Albert Lea. She was 69 years old.
Maria Carmen (Orta) Morley was born on December 11, 1947 in Rancherias Coahuila, Mexico to Francisco and Vicenta (Salazar) Orta. Her first job was taking care of her baby sister. Maria worked many jobs throughout her life. She worked at her grandfather's Frito factory in Mexico, Fine Silver Factory in San Antonio, TX, picking asparagus in Hollandale, MN, The Clothing Center in Albert Lea, Carter Farms in Austin, MN, and the Senior Center of Freeborn County. This is where she met George Morley. The couple would marry on June 7, 1997. Maria also worked as a Hispanic Translator for many places in the community. She worked for the school district, at Christ Episcopal Church for the Hispanic Mission Service, she was a translator for the prison, and for a meat plant in Northwood, IA. She was also a Sunday School Teacher at Grace Christian Church, and for the last five years, she worked as a lunch attendant for Lakeview and Hawthorne Schools.
She is preceded in death by both parents, Francisco and Vicenta Orta; husband, George Morley; brother, Simon Orta Sr.; and nieces, Marissa Estrada and Martha Trevino.
Maria is survived by her three children, son, Alvin (Maritza) Hernandez Jr. and their children, Ariel and her daughter, Zallaiah, Alexandria, Malachi, Isaiah, Daizy, and Jossie; daughter, Carmelita (Tresh) Wasmoen and their children, Casey and Mickey; and son, Sergio (Jeana) Hernandez and their children, Adam, Zechariah, Lydia, Esther, Isaiah, Lauren, and Cale; five sisters, Blanca (Jesse) Estrada, Bertha (Samuel) Trevino, Janie Orta, Maria (Mario) Zuniga, and Hilda (Ramiro) de Leon; 22 nieces and nephews, as well as other loving relatives and friends.
