Funeral services for Maria J. Garza of Albert Lea, MN, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel in Albert Lea. Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4 until 7 PM at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service.
Maria died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. She was 82 years of age.
Maria was born June 18, 1930 in Texas, the daughter of Jesse and Adel Sabellez. She attended public school in Texas and was united in marriage to Thomas Garza in Sioux Falls South Dakota. She had been a resident of Freeborn County for over 40 years.
Maria was a member of St Theodore Catholic Church and volunteered her time for various organizations. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls, raising flowers, gardening and cooking.
She is survived by her husband Thomas, children Cornelio (Diane) Vallejo of Albert Lea, MN, Leandro (Connie) Vallejo of Austin, MN, Juanita (Jimmy) Gonzalez of Albert Lea, MN, Sylvia (Brian) Guy of Albert Lea, MN, Dee (Rocky) Applegate of Albert Lea, MN, Ramiro (Gracie) Vallejo of Texas, Santos (Rae jean) Garcia of Lake Mills, Iowa, Frank (Terri) Vallejo of Minneapolis, MN. There are 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one brother Joe Sabellez of Corpus Christie TX, and sisters Frances Juarez and Eva Hernandez both of West TX.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Eleanor, Elecia, Lupe and daughter Hortencia.
