Funeral services for Margaret Elaine Jensen of Albert Lea will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community Chapel and will be preceded by a one-hour visitation. Chaplain Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Margaret died Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community. She was 86.
Margaret was born November 18, 1930 in Walnut, Illinois, the daughter of Allen and Bernice (Hopkins) Schoaf. She graduated from Walnut High School in 1948. She became a registered nurse having graduated from Kahler Hospitals School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota in 1951. She worked at Worrall Hospital in Rochester until her marriage to Ervin C. Jensen of Owatonna on February 7, 1952. She then worked at the Owatonna City Hospital.
Margaret and Ervin had four children. They lived in Owatonna, Faribault, and Waseca before moving to Albert Lea in 1959. She worked as an RN at Naeve Hospital from 1963-1975 and at Fountain Centers from 1975 until she retired in August 1991.
Margaret’s children and grandchildren were very dear to her and she cherished the time she had with them.
She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church since moving to Albert Lea. She was a volunteer and particularly enjoyed working with seniors. She worked with Senior Resources and was a volunteer at St. John’s Nursing Home. She was also a member of the Naeve Hospital Auxiliary, Y’s Menettes, Methodist Kahler Alumni Association, Minnesota Nurses Association, and WIG (Women’s Investment Group).
Margaret liked bowling, walking and reading and particularly enjoyed playing bridge, visiting with friends, and world travel.
Survivors include her children; Alan and wife Pat of Cedar Rapids, IA, David and wife Dr. Ann Kulik of Aiken, SC, Kristi and husband Dr. Paul Preston of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren Alyssa (Jensen) Menz and husband Jeff Kaufmann, Erik Jensen, Stephanie and Nicole Preston, granddaughter Katrina Kulik; great-grandson David Alexander Menz; brother Fred Schoaf of Walnut, IL; sister-in-law Margie Jensen of Austin, MN; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Ervin, son Bruce, parents Allen and Bernice Schoaf, parents-in-law Henry and Rose Jensen, and brother-in-law Lawrence Jensen.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Senior Resources of Freeborn County.
