Funeral services for Lois Margaret Wangen will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN. Associate in Ministry Milt Bighley will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea.
Lois Margaret Wangen passed away peacefully on Sunday December 21, 2014 at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 87 years old. Lois was born on December 16, 1927 in Osage, Iowa to Luella and Lawrence Hartwig. She grew up on a farm near Osage, graduating from Osage High School.
After graduation, she held various jobs as a secretery including Lutheran Mutual in Waverly, IA, Empire Mutual in Albert Lea, and Universal Co-Op in Albert Lea. She met Gerald Wangen and on July 14, 1951, Lois and Gerald were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Osage, IA. They made their home on a farm near Albert Lea for 9 years and then moved to a farm near Hartland for 29 years. Lois helped her husband with farming and was a homemaker for their two daughters.
Gerald and Lois moved to Albert Lea for retirement where they were very active in Grace Lutheran Church, participating in bible studies and visiting shut-ins. Lois was also a member of the Altar Guild and wedding committee for many years. In her free time, Lois enjoyed cross stitching and putting together puzzles.
Lois is survived by her husband, Gerald Wangen; children, Cindy (Milt) Bighley of North St. Paul and Carole (Steve) Schoon of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and grandchildren, Nick and Adam Bighley, Matt (Alice) Schoon, and Josh Schoon. Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Luella; brother, Wilmer (Isabelle) Hartwig; and grandson, Daniel Schoon.
