Obituary for Lionel Lee Peters



The funeral service for Lionel Lee Peters will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at Salem Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, MN. The Reverend Jay Dahlvang will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday, with a Masonic Service at 7 PM, at Bonnerup Funeral Service.



Lionel died on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at St. John?s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea, MN. He was 87 years old.



Lionel was born in Worthington, MN on September 17, 1917, the son of William and Laura (Bixby) Peters. He was a 1937 graduate of Worthington High School. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army and was a Purser in the U.S. Merchant Marines.



On August 25, 1946 Lionel was united in marriage with Ruth E. Johnson Hagerman at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. He had been a resident of Albert Lea for 58 years and a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he had served on church council and various other committees. He had served as past president of Luther Condo Association.



Lionel was a salesman for Trades Publishing for 27 years. After his retirement from Trades he founded Lionel Printing and actively served his customers until he retired again in 2001. Throughout the years he was a car salesman for various local car dealerships.



Lionel had been an active member of the Masons: Western Star Lodge #26, Albert Lea Chapter #30, Southgate Council #15, Apollo Commandery #12, Albert Lea Area Shrine Club, Osman Shriners, and Halcyon Chapter #21 O.E.S.



Lionel is survived by a daughter, Karen (William) Joransen of Nashua, NH; a son, David (Deb) Peters of Billings, MT; four grandchildren: Timothy (Eileen) Joransen of Alexandria, VA, Christian (Amanda) Joransen of Nashua, NH, Bina Peters of Billings, MT, Aria Peters of Northfield, MN; three great grandchildren: Connor and Will Joransen of Alexandria, VA and Ryan Joransen of Nashua, NH; one brother, Quinten (Phyllis) Peters of Pasco Robles, CA; two sisters: Ruth Ann (Eldon) Voss of Greeley, CO, Betty Carlson of Moreno Valley, CA; one aunt, Ethelyn Hanson of Graettinger, IA; a sister-in-law, Freda Johnson of Morris, MN; nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth on February 13, 2002; brother, Billy Peters; three sisters: Lucille Hart, Barbara Harman and Dorothy Peters
