Lilah Rose Slater, age 91 of Mankato, MN, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Laurels Peak. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, February 12, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. A committal service will take place at Graceland Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association and American Cancer Society.
Lilah was born on August 6, 1924 to Ludvig and Agnes Peterson in Albert Lea, MN. She attended Albert Lea Public Schools, majoring in all music programs. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper at Wilson, Inc.
In 1947 she married Kenneth Slater at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. They were active members in the church where she sang in the choir. In 1953 she, her husband and family moved to Mankato, MN. They attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School; played piano for the Jr. Choir and sang in the Sr. Choir. She worked as a bookkeeper in Mankato until she retired. In 1988 she and Ken moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas. They were members of United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista where she was an active member, belonging to a church circle and the WELCA. She was a member of the 9-Hole Women's Golf and an active volunteer at Helping Hands and Fine Arts. She enjoyed reading, golf, outdoor gardening and any kind of music. In 2013 she and Ken returned to Mankato, MN to be closer to family.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Olson of Rochester, MN and Carol (Larry) Boyum of Mankato, MN; two grandchildren, Andy (Julie) Boyum of Farmington, MN and Jennie (Joe) Howard of Milwaukee, WI; two great grandchildren, Charlie and Mason Boyum of Farmington, MN; one sister-in-law, Polly; life long friend, Ione Kelly of Albert Lea; and cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken in 2015; two brothers-in-law, Harold and Clayton; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Helen; son-in-law, Owen Olson; and aunts and uncles.
