A memorial service for Leonard "Len" Carter Jr. will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 7, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 PM at the Bonnerup Funeral Chapel, Albert Lea location. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery at a later date.
Leonard passed away at his home surrounded by family on Monday, March 3, 2014. He was 62 years old.
Leonard "Len" Carter Jr. was born on March 14, 1951 to Leonard Carter Sr. and Betty (Frew) Carter in Joplin, MO. Len graduated from Southeast High School, in Cherokee, KS in 1969. He joined the United States Navy in 1970, and honorably served his country until his discharge in 1978.
Len was united in marriage to Kathryn Munson on May 27, 1978. They had three children. The family soon moved to Kathy's hometown of Albert Lea in 1981. Len was employed with the Postal Service until his retirement in 2007.
Len was a member of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, and also volunteered as a church usher. He was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
He enjoyed sports, antiquing, and was very proud of his military background. Above all, he loved his family, especially all of his grandchildren.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; father in-law, Casper Munson; and siblings, LeRoy, Mary, Marie and Ann. And a brother in-law, John.
Leonard leaves behind his wife, Kathy; children, Troy (Laura) Carter, Heather Maskrey, and Nathan Carter and his special friend Kate Lindaman; grandchildren, Austin, Spencer and Maxwell Carter, and Carter Maskrey; siblings, Bobbie Carter, Becky Loyd, and Linda (Ken) Threfall; mother in-law, Elaine Munson; sister in-law, Carmell Fadden; and brothers in-law, Mark Derringer, Van (Laura) Munson, Steve (Diane) Munson, and Jon Munson; as well as many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
