Funeral services for Leona Ella Herman of Glenville, MN, will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church in Glenville, MN. Pastor James Rushton will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville, MN.
Leona died on Friday, January 17, 2014 at her home in Glenville. She was 88 years of age.
Leona was born May 29, 1925 in New Richland, MN, the daughter of Herman and Phoebe Anna (Howe) Matthies. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1943. On October 29, 1943 she was united in marriage to Verle Herman at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN.
Leona had been employed by Queens Products, was the City Assessor for Glenville, MN, and with Four Seasons Fountain Products. She had also been a member of the Elks Club.
Leona enjoyed crafts, sewing, ceramics, quilting, knitting, camping and travel. She loved to read, feed the birds and spend time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Leona is survived by her children Karen Nelson of Albert Lea, MN, Richard (Jeanne) Herman of Emmons, MN, David Herman of Glenville, MN, Philip (Linda) Herman of Blaine, MN. Grandchildren Shari Nelson, Jackie (Brian) Otterson, Randy (Angie) Harmdierks, Krista (Mike) Honsey, Lisa (Chad) Peterson. Great grandchildren Brandon (Melissa) Burnett, Cody, Brooke Otterson, Marley, Harper, Haydon Honsey, Claire, Norah Peterson. Great great grandchildren Issack and Olivia. One sister in law Bonnie Hengestad of Northwood, IA, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters LuLu Epland, Mildred Lucas, Anna Phoebe Matthies and sister in law Mary Jean Jaspers.
