Funeral services for Leah M. Olson will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, Glenville. Pastor Nancy Hansen will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 PM on Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. A family burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
Leah passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at home. She was 95 years old.
Leah Muriel (Bure) was born on March 4, 1921 to Carl and Christine (Pederson) Bure in Pequot Lakes, MN. The family soon moved to the Glenville area. On December 30, 1944, she was united in marriage to Rodney Olson, at the church parsonage in Glenville. The couple was residents of this area their entire lives.
Leah worked as a cook at the Glenville Schools for many years. She also worked at American Gas for 10 years, as well as Land O' Lakes for 5 years. Leah was a member of First Lutheran Church in Glenville, where she was active in Ladies Aide and enjoyed working at funeral luncheons. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing, and baking – Lefse, kumla, cake donuts, and mush were her specialties! Leah liked to watch the Minnesota Vikings and the Twins. She never missed an opportunity to play card games with her family and friends. Most of all, Leah loved her family; they were everything to her. She was a selfless, giving and loving person, who always put others ahead of herself.
She will be missed by her children, LaDonna Struck, Valerie (Gary) Buchanan, Ronda (Steve) Satre, Rodney Olson Jr., and Rick (Sherri) Olson; grandchildren, Tammy (Chad), Tim (Aimee), Traci (Dennis), Trent (Cari), Kari (Smitty), Hilerie, Tiffany (Dan), Caleb, Seth (Tiffany), Joshua (Megan), Jason (Analey), Colleen, Brandon, and Cody (Sadie); 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney; both parents; daughter, JoAnn Vogel, and a daughter in infancy, Mary Lee Olson; son-in-law, Bill Struck; grandson, Jeremy Satre; and siblings, Jasper Bure, Ina Johnson, Eva Hulbert, Amy Struyk, Albert Bure, Carl Bure, and Edward Bure.
