Funeral services for Dr. Lawrence W. McIver of Albert Lea, MN, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, March 21, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. Pastor Tom Biatek will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4 until 7 PM at the Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Area Veterans Groups.
Dr. McIver died Thursday March 17, 2011 at the ThornCrest Retirement Center in Albert Lea, MN. He was 96 years of age.
Lawrence was born July 31, 1914 in Kimball, MN, the son of Walter and Susan (Gryte) McIver. He was a graduate of Kimball, MN, High School and Hamline University. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Peterson. Larry graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1937 and practiced general dentistry from 1938-1942 in Minneapolis. He served three years in the US Navy. Larry then graduated from the University of Illinois in Orthodontics and started orthodontic practice in 1947.
He was a life member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists, the Edward H Angle Society of Orthodontists, a fellow in International College of Dentists and the Minnesota Dental Association. In 1982 he received the Dr. Amber B. Hall Award Winner for Distinguished Dental Alumnus from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Larry developed many new products and techniques in Orthodontics. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, the Elks Club and the Golden K Kiwanis.
In his leisure time, Lawrence enjoyed photography, boating, fishing and golf. His yard was always in pristine condition as well as his garden. Over the years, He was a frequent speaker at Dental meetings across the country. After his retirement he would winter in Arizona.
Following the death of Dorothy, Larry was united in marriage to Jeanette Stieler in 1996 in Albert Lea, MN.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Jeanette McIver of Albert Lea, MN, children; Barbara (Burt) Booth of Burnsville, MN, and Stephan J. McIver of Chandler, AZ. There are two stepchildren; Joan (John) Wolf of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Jim (Christine) Stieler of Loveland, CO. Grandchildren include; Kory (Brandi) McIver, Karyn (Daniel) Hubbard, Riki (Jeff) Carlston, Denise (Erik) Swenson, Jodi (Brad) McMahan, Jill (Dave) Brannon, Melissa (Brian) McMahan, Jessica Stieler, Kent Stieler and Corrine(Chase) Pearl. There are several great grandchildren.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Dorothy.
Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to Hospice or the Humane Society.
