LaVonne (Hagen) Meyer, 84, passed away at her home in New Richland, Minnesota on March 21, 2025, after a short battle of cancer.
LaVonne was born to Jasper and Lola (Miskoff) Hagen on February 20th, 1941. She graduated from New Richland-Hartland High School in 1959, and continued to live in the New Richland area her entire life. LaVonne married Richard (Dick) Meyer in New Richland on March 22nd, 1965. They had three children: Brad, Bruce and Brenda.
LaVonne began her career at the New Richland Star in 1959 as office manager as well as copy editor, receptionist, photographer and jack-of -all trades. LaVonne purchased the paper in 2002 from Margaret Engesser and continued to run the paper until 2005 when she sold the paper to Jim Lutgens.
LaVonne enjoyed country music, shopping, eating out, gardening, mowing her lawn, tilling her garden, cooking, dancing, going to Diamond Jo’s Casino, and visiting with her Kwik Trip friends in Waseca. She also enjoyed following the MN Twins and Vikings. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, sharing stories of them whenever she could.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, Lola and Jasper, her husband Dick in 1990, two sisters and her best friend Mary Supalla.
She is survived by her sons, Brad and his wife Karen Meyer, Bruce and his wife Anne Meyer, and daughter, Brenda and her husband Luke Dobberstein; six grandchildren, Allison McNally and her husband Blake, Ryan Meyer, Skylar Meyer, Evan Dobberstein, Alex Dobberstein and Alden Dobberstein. She is also survived by her special “little sisters”, Cheryl Engesser Kortuem and Sandi Engesser Jessen. Left to cherish memories are her good friends Doug Lund and Vivvika Niehaus, along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 1:00PM at Friedrich’s Funeral Home in New Richland. Burial will follow at St. Olaf Cemetery.
LaVonne was in the newspaper business for 47 Years! This is her last story.
