The memorial service for Larry C. Matthes of Albert Lea, Minnesota will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at
Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. Visitation will be one hour before the service . The Reverend Joel Vano will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded.
Larry died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Mayo Health System, Austin, Minnesota. He was 68 years old.
Larry was born December 25, 1944 to Alfred and LuElla (Rupp) Matthes. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1963. Larry then joined the Air Force and served for 4 years. He flew with the Blue Angles and was Crew Chief on their C 130 plane and also was their backup and support. After being discharged he entered Dun Woody School and learned to be a Tool & Die maker. After graduating from there, he worked for Queen Stove which later became Scottman for 20 years. He then worked for Lou Rich and Streater's. He also worked as grounds keeper for Diamond Joes. Larry belonged to the American Legion, Eagles Club and Moose Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, bowling, dancing and listening to Country Music.
Larry Is survived by his significant other: Gail Armstrong of Albert Lea, MN; brother: Gene (Mary) Matthes of Albert Lea, MN; nieces: Michele (Mike) VonHagen of Iowa, and Cassie Matthes of Albert Lea, MN; great nephew: Taylor of Jackson, Mn; great nieces: Calleigh of Iowa and Kennady of Albert Lea, MN; adoptive daughter: Cindy Thompson of Perry, Kansas.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents: Alfred and LuElla Matthes.
