Funeral Services for Larry D. Hoium, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 2, 2014
at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Reverend Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the funeral home. Larry died on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at ThorneCrest Retirement Community. He was 70.
He was born on November 14, 1943, in Albert Lea, the son of Leslie A. and Gertie L. (Gulbrandson) Hoium.
He graduated from Albert Lea High School and then attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis. Following his training at Brown Institute, he had worked as a electronic technician at E.R. Johnson in Waseca, and then at Farmstead in Albert Lea for more than 20 years before retiring. He was married to Barbara Jo Freund on February 14, 1971, they were later divorced. Larry got much enjoyment from restoring his father's 1943 John Deere Tractor. Larry was very quiet and non-assuming. He enjoyed fixing things and sitting down with a diet coke and a big bowl of popcorn. Larry is survived by his son Dustin Hoium of St. Peter, MN, and his son Chad; daughter Kristine DeLuca and her children Max and Arabella; step children: David and Kim Freund; sisters: Jeanine (David) Christensen of Clarks Grove, MN, Janice (David) Springborg of Albert Lea; brother Jim (Joyce) Hoium of Albert Lea; aunt Jeanette Ruth Gulbrandson; nieces and nephews: Janelle (Mike) Roehrick, Tari Sullivan (Joe Monson), Jeff Sullivan, Jason Sullivan, Sheryl (Russ) Nemec, Chad (Joy) Springborg, Jason (Joie) Willner, Janell (Johnnie) Talamantes, Jillian (Joe) Stitt; several great nieces and nephews, and former wife Barbara Jo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jodie Rae in infancy and step son Danny Freund. Larry so enjoyed the special moments spent with his children and grandchildren. Larry will be greatly missed by his family. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to theneighborhood "garage buddies" for making Larry's dream of restoring his tractor a reality.
