A public visitation for Kenneth C. Skogheim will be held from 5 – 7 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced, and masks are strongly encouraged. A private family committal service with military honors will take place Wednesday at Hillcrest Cemetery, with Father Kurt Farrell officiating. Kenneth passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at his home in Albert Lea. He was 90 years old.
Kenneth Clarence Skogheim was born March 9, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI to Clarence and Mary (O’Conner) Skogheim. At the age of two, his family moved to Albert Lea, MN. Ken attended school and graduated in 1948. He joined the Air Force and on December 15, 1948, he went to Oklahoma City, OK to do his training and eventually ended up in Japan during the Korean War. He would also spend time in San Antonio, TX during his service. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty, he began his 40-year career at Queen Stoves, retiring in 1987. Kenneth also worked at Duck’s Tap as a bartender and worked for Albert Lea Auto Salvage. He was also a volunteer fireman in Freeborn County for 25 years.
On August 22, 1953, he married Ardella (Johnson) in Freeborn County and to this union, four children were born. He enjoyed going to the Fire Barn, tinkering with odd jobs, trout fishing, and seeing his family.
He is survived by his children, Ken (Deb) Skogheim, Dave (Sue) Skogheim, Theresa (Craig), Knudtson, and Steve (Char) Skogheim; grandchildren, Wendy (Mike) Snyder, Amy (Jeremy) Schuman, Angie (Justin) Fisher, Bryan (Bethany) Skogheim, Brad Skogheim and special friend Julie, Jeff (Andrea) Knudtson, Ty Skogheim, Crystal Skogheim and special friend Tyler; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ardella; both parents, Clarence and Mary; siblings, Anna Mae (Bob) Ashpole, Sonny Skogheim, and a baby brother in infancy; and two granddaughters, Gabrielle Johnson and Kristin Lee
