Memorial services for Kenneth J. Sletten will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove, Minnesota. Pastor Jamie Cameron will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Clarks Grove Cemetery at a later date. Bonnerup Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
Kenneth Jerome Sletten passed away Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Albert Lea Medical Center at the age of 88. He was born May 26, 1928 to Albert and Alma (Nelson) Sletten. When Ken was a child his mother passed away, so Ken and his brother Henry were sent to live with their Grandma Sletten and Uncles Sam and Oscar. Following graduation from Kiester High School, Ken worked as a hired man for Henry Schneider on a farm near Mansfield, MN.
In November of 1950 Ken married Iva Benson and entered the Army five days later. Following his discharge, Ken and Iva moved to Clarks Grove where they raised their six children. Starting life in Clarks Grove, Ken worked at the lumber yard and later for Scott-Kelly Construction, Lembke Construction, and in maintenance for School District 241.
Survivors include his children, Bruce Sletten, Mary (Donn) Slette, Lori (Dean) Veldboom, Danny Sletten, Jerry Sletten, and Malinda Dyrdal (Rich Navarro); grandchildren, Jonn (Nikki) Slette, Amy Sletten, Angie Sletten, Jennifer Kostecki, Jill (Dan) Koehler, Josh (April) Moe, Brian Moe, Beth (Darren) Anderson, Andrew (Rachel) Dyrdal, Karey Dyrdal, Alexandra and Ryan Sletten; great-grandchildren, Jakob, Hannah and Emelia Kostecki, Lily and Ava Moe, Ingrid and Noelle Slette, Ethan and Karly Koehler, Lauren, Maya and Tommy Hansen, Rosie and Lucie Dyrdal; sister-in-law, Elaine Sletten; and many nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Iva; parents, Albert and Alma; brothers, Henry, Arnold, Donald, Earl, and Richard; sisters, Violet and Helen; father and mother in-law, Bill and Marion Benson; and nephews, Steven Sletten and Kevin Sletten.
