Funeral Services for Kenneth "Kenny" Jorgenson, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 16, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Reverend John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church. Kenny died at his home on Monday, August 12, 2013. He was 88. He was born on February 21, 1925, in Albert Lea the son of Einer and Lillian (Schaeger)Jorgenson. Kenny graduated from Albert Lea High School and then served our country in the U.S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific in WWII as a signal man, receiving his honorable discharge in 1946. Kenny married Matilda Weseman on February 21, 1947, at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. He had worked at a greenhouse in Albert Lea and then started his career at King Seeley where he did time studies, retiring in 1987. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he had helped count offering on Monday evenings for many years. He and Matilda enjoyed serving as crossing guards at Southwest Junior High. He enjoyed being involved in his children's lives, following their activities and coaching and helping with sports, when he could. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Eagle's Club. Some of his favorite pastimes were traveling, gambling, playing cards, gardening, listening to blue grass music and being spoiled by his wife. He is survived by his children: Ronald (Cindi) Jorgenson of Red Wing, MN, Candy Jorgenson of Albert Lea, Lonna (David) Smith of Dodgeville, WI; grandchildren: Amy (Christopher) DeWall of Red Wing, MN, Sara Meyer of Medford, MN, Troy Smith of Pardeeville, WI, Travis (Jennifer) Smith of Dodgeville, WI; great grandchildren: Aaron and Amanda DeWall, Jonathan and Jack Meyer and Lillian and Gabe Smith; sister-in-law Marion Weseman of Albert Lea and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Matilda in 2006, great grandson Ethan Smith, brother Vern Jorgenson, sister Delores Lenzen and father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Carrie Weseman. Kenny will be fondly remembered and always made friends wherever he went.
