The funeral service for Kenneth Palmer Finseth of New Richland, Minnesota will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland. The Reverend Paul Andree will officiate. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland and one hour before the service at the church.
Kenneth died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the New Richland Care Center. He was 92 years old.
Kenneth was born July 21, 1916 in New Richland, Minnesota to Ole and Caroline (Fingarson) Finseth. He resided in New Richland until 1950 when he began farming near Hartland, Minnesota until 1963 and then moved back to New Richland. Kenny married Lenore Hatle on August, 4, 1946 at Hartland, Minnesota. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland and served on the church council. Kenny entered the Army Air Corp on October 1, 1942 serving during WWII, flying 30 missions on a B24 Liberator. Kenny worked as a carpenter, farmer, part time, and later full time, rural Postal Carrier in New Richland. He was a volunteer fireman in New Richland for 24 years between 1946 and 1980 including times as Assistant Fire Chief for 4 years and Fire Chief for 4 years. Kenny also was a 63 year member of the New Richland American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends, doing wood crafts, collecting and refinishing antiques, and was an avid coin and stamp collector. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, and making things for them. He enjoyed staying in touch with many of his Army buddies though out the USA.
Kenny is survived by his wife Lenore Finseth of New Richland, MN, three children: Barbara Finseth of New Richland, MN, James Finseth and his wife Saundra of Albert Lea, MN, and Bradley Finseth and his wife Brenda of Rochester, MN.; three grandchildren: Adam, Amber and Jayna; sister-in-law: Margaret Finseth of Portland, Or, brother-in-law: Orville Hatle of Iron Mountain, Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
Kenny is preceded in death by his parents: Ole and Caroline Finseth; brother: Arnold Finseth, sister: Gladys Kibler; brother in infancy Loren Finseth; brother-in-law: Marvin Kibler, Wilburt Wagner, Noel Hatle, Ellsworth Hatle, Tony Madson; sisters-in-law: Ardis Madson, Ruby Wagner, Dorothy Hatle; nieces, Ruth Clayton and Janice Kemble.
Memorials may be sent to the New Richland Fire department, New Richland American Legion, Alzheimer Association, or the New Richland Care Center.
