Funeral Services for Keith Dwayne Ulve will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Reverend John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran's Organizations. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church. Keith died on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He was 86. He was born on April 29, 1928, in Lake Mills, Iowa, the son of Gerhard and Alice (Westland) Ulve. He was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa on June 10, 1928, and later confirmed on May 9, 1943, at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Keith had lived in Lakes Mills, Iowa, Clear Lake, Iowa, Minneapolis, MN, Waseca, MN, and then Albert Lea, since 1938.
Keith served our country in the US Navy from March 1, 1946 until his honorable discharge in December 30, 1947. He had been stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Base in Guam. He was proud to have participated in the Honor Flight in 2011. Keith was united in marriage to Mary M. Dusza on October 11, 1952 in Wells, Minnesota. Keith had worked for the Albert Lea Tool Co., Wilson & Co., and Farmstead Foods. After retiring he worked part-time delivering parts for Napa Auto. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, where he had served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member the V.F.W. He had also served on the Local 6 UFCW negotiating committee and executive board. Keith enjoyed traveling, taking vacations with his family, attending sporting events and having coffee with friends. His greatest joy came from being a husband, father, grandfather, and spending time with family and friends. Keith is survived by two children: son David Ulve of St. Paul, MN, and daughter Kimberly and her husband Danny O'Brien of Columbia Heights, MN; grandchildren: Grace Catherine and Colin O'Brien, also of Columbia Heights, MN; sister Marjorie and her husband William Schaffer of Austin, MN; brother-in-law Ronald Schoenfeldt of Rapidan, MN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerhard and Alice, his wife Mary in 2007; brother Richard Ulve; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. A.O. Westland and Mr. and Mrs. O.O. Ulve; step-father Truman E. Olson; sister's-in-law: Cecelia Young, Therese Ehrich, Jeanne Ulve, Margaret Schoenfeldt; brother-in-law Derald Ehrich.
