Karelyn Quam

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, September 9, at Grace Christian Church in Albert Lea. The Reverend George Marin will officiate. Interment will be in Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa. Karelyn died on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at her home. She was 63. She was born on August 23, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin "Swede" and Vera (Righi) Greif. Karelyn graduated from Johnston High School in Johnston, Iowa, with the class of 1966. She married Howard Quam Sr. in Grimes, Iowa in 1968. She lived many years of her life in Albert Lea, where she had worked at Good Samaritan Center and Perkins. Karelyn enjoyed needlework, camping, gardening and being outdoors. She was an animal lover and an accomplished accordion player. Grandson Drew, was a very precious gift for Karelyn, as he was the center of her world. Karelyn will be greatly missed by her family, son Howard Quam Jr. and special friend Kathy Stuart of Albert Lea; daughter Dena Quam and special friend Dylan Monson and grandson Drew Monson of Albert Lea, sisters: Katherine Cackler of Urbandale, IA, LouAnn (Gary) Culbertson of Woodburn, IA, Barbara (Paul) Keltner of Johnston, IA; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, and former husband Howard Quam Sr.
