Mrs. Kenneth (Joyce) Allen, 93 years old, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at Thornecrest Retirement
Community. Joyce was born August 10, 1910, in Huron, South Dakota, the oldest daughter of Thomas and Frances Thompson.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College in Albion, Michigan, where she was a member of the
Kappa Delta sorority. Joyce was a teacher at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Joyce has lived in Albert Lea since 1953. She taught English at Albert Lea High School for over a decade and her husband Ken was the Editor of the Albert Lea Tribune.
Joyce loved to travel and was an avid reader. She was active in the AAUW and the Travel Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Saturday, September 27, aqt 2:00 P.M. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. There will be a private
burial.
Joyce is survived by daughter-in-law Elizabeth Allen, three
grandchildren: Ken Allen, Sue (Allen) Kraft and Greg Allen,
and four great grandchildren.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Allen,
sister Barbara Hughes, and a son Thomas Allen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
ACT Community Theater of Christ Episcopal Church.
