Funeral Services for Joy Elaine Sanders, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Chapel of First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend John Holt will officiate.
Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour before the service at the church. Joy died on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Albert Lea. Joy was born on March 9, 1924, in Albert Lea, the daughter of George and Margit (Sanders) Ruble, and was raised by her grandparents Martin and Josephine Sanders. She graduated from Albert Lea High School with the class of 1946, and then obtained her Associate Degree from Waldorf College. She was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church where she had been active in Mission Circle #27, the Friendship Club, the F.L.C.W. and served on the Altar Guild for over 20 years. As a resident of the Broadway Care Center for the past several years, Joy continued to enjoy the monthly visits and communion from friends at First Lutheran Church.
Joy had done clerical work at the Ford Garage for a short time and then had served as church secretary at the Methodist Church for a time. She was a member of the Friendly Handicap Club and enjoyed Senior Citizen activities, especially bingo. She also enjoyed playing dominoes and reading the Albert Lea Tribune every day. Joy had attended Camp Courage Summer Camp for many years. She is survived by cousins: Steve Bjerke, Kathi Sobota and Cindy Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, and cousins Margaret Allen and Marjorie
Bjerke.
